THE AMAZING FFA

By: Jaxon Certonio

FFA is something really fun to be a part of in high school. They participate in a variety of fun activities throughout the school year and in the summer. Throughout school, they participate in fun activities during Halloween and Christmas. During December, they decorated cookies and took them to the care center, which they enjoyed doing. In January, they participate in numerous judging activities. They do a lot of things that allow them to learn new things and gain more knowledge about the things they love to do. It takes a lot of work for them, but they are able to get it done because they thoroughly enjoy it. Recently, Rylee Ward was spotlighted in a statewide FFA newsletter, which was really awesome. She had amazing character goals. Rylee had an amazing story to tell about how she loves living on a farm and being able to help with it.

FROM SCRAPS TO QUILTS

By ISABELLA CROFTS

How well do you know your hometown? In our small town of Panguitch Utah there is this small business called Patches Quilt Shop. It's a really fascinating store. The manager there's name is Jon. He's been working there since late 2020 and the shop opened in February 2020. In their first year of operation they made 1000 masks for other businesses during Covid-19. It is the biggest fabric store in all of southern Utah with over 6,000 bolts of fabric! Believe it or not all of the workers there started out never knowing how to sew before and now they all are experts. That proves to you that you can start sewing at any time and become great at it over time. They sell quilt kits for anyone that is interested in quilting and anyone can do it! Most of the fabric they have there is cotton but they do have several other kinds of fabric for their quilts. They make custom quilts and they are all super cool and creative. When they make the quilts there are tons of stitches and hours and hours of work that goes into making each quilt. They made an amazing quilt with months of work going into it and they auctioned it off and they said that all the money they get from the quilt will go to a girl in Piute with cancer. This is very kind of them! They also occasionally make quilts and bring them up to Primary Children's Hospital. These people are so selfless and generous. If you are ever bored some day or want to try quilting go into Patches on main street and you won't regret it!

PIVOTS

By Kole Fullmer

Pivots are a common type of irrigation system used by farmers to water crops and pastures. They work like giant sprinklers, with a main tower in the center and several wheeled towers extending outward. Between each tower are hoses with sprinklers that evenly distribute water across the field. This system is convenient because farmers can control it remotely using their phones. Pivot irrigation also uses significantly less water than flood irrigation, since it applies only the amount of water crops need. Because of these benefits, there are programs available that help farmers install pivot systems through grants and financial assistance. Pivots can be supplied by either a pond or a well, depending on the location. This allows farmers to irrigate whenever needed, as long as water is available, rather than waiting for a scheduled watering time.

ALL BARK no BITE "NO Snow ALERT"

By Draven Owens

For the start of December last year it seemed like it was going to be a magical year with a lot of snow since it snowed literally only a couple days into winter. But as we've all seen, there hasn't been a trace of anything in town except gloomy weather and cold air in the morning that feels like tiny knives on the skin. The only snow that you can visibly see is on the the mountains around town and that's it. Just a gloomy sad little town with nothing to show for it, except the cold. An interview with the fellow student and second place holder in Mr PHS has stated that "This cold weather is just so lame, I just want snow like from when I was just a wee lad." It seems that all this town needs is a little winter wonderland and then it might finally feel somewhat joyful again.

FROM HEADLOCKS TO SPLADLES!

By Oaklee Dickinson

Wrestling is in full swing. The Panguitch wrestling team has been going to dual's, and tournaments almost every day and every weekend. The wrestling team took on Parowan and Kanab on January 6th, and the wrestlers took a major win from both duals on the same night! Bobcat news got to talk to one of the girl wrestlers, and a stat girl for how the season has been going, and how everyone is feeling right now! Laynee Sawyer has been having so much fun this season, she has been making weight for every duel and tournament they've gone to. Their practices were hard at first and still are but they are getting better, after finally getting back in shape. Her record right now is 23-7! The next girl that they got to interview was Camryn Houston, a stat girl. Camryn has had so much fun stating and watching the boys improve every time they wrestle, she loves going to tournaments and watching them in tough matches. Some of the hard things that she said about stating is that it can become very stressful, and she feels like the stat girls are underappreciated, and odors can get very strong! She is very excited for the Rockwell Rumble coming next week. Panguitch wrestling team is working so hard and are winning like no other, being able to be on this team is so much fun! Come support them on their last tournaments, and duals these next few weeks!

BEHIND THE SIDELINES

By Kyzlee Partridge

The crowd sees the cheer team cheering on the sidelines and performing at half time but there is much more than that going on for the Panguitch high school cheer team. January is the biggest month for the cheerleaders having games and duels to cheer at and having their own competitions that they need to practice for. January 17th is region cheer at crimson cliffs high school. Then state cheer is on the 23rd of January. The panguitch cheerleaders are so excited to go and perform their routines that they have been practicing and learning since June. They do three different routines, show with a cheer, timeout cheer and pom. The most nerve racking one is show because it has stunts, tumbling and dancing all in 2 minutes and 30 seconds. They have learned a lot of new skills this year and can't wait to show it off. Overall the Panguitch cheer team has a lot going on this month and is the busiest sport!

GIRLS BASKETBALL

By Jerzie Walter

Here is a little update on the girls' basketball team! The season is going just okay! The reason is that our girls' basketball team is not winning as many games as they would like, but they are playing really well. They are working so hard and trying their best! The reason why Payten Graff loves basketball so much is that all of the girls get along very well. Also, the bus rides are another reason why she loves it so much. On the bus rides, all of the girls get to know each other a little better! She joined basketball because it is a lot of fun and she loves the environment. Payten loves her coaches because they are both super nice and strict, and they really know what they are doing. That is how our girls' basketball team is doing this season so far!

BOYS BASKETBALL

By Parker Henrie

The season could be going better for the Bobcats basketball team. It could also be going worse. They are currently having an 8 and 6 season, which isn't bad They still have a while until the season's over, so they still have time to turn this season around and start winning more games. It might be hard because one of their star players, Casey Walter, is out with a broken arm, but that means you just gotta practice harder to make up for it. They even beat Piute, who is pretty good this year. They have also played some big schools so far, including San Juan, Virgin Valley, and Elko. To mix things up, when basketball players got asked what WNBA team they would play for, Jackson Certonio chose Indiana Fever or the New York Liberty, and Mason Mecham also chose Liberty. The basketball team is loving it and that's the how the boy's basketball season's going!
